What Should You Expect During A SPRAVATO Treatment Near Monmouth Junction?

April 29, 2024

Treatment-Resistant Depression (TRD) can be confirmed if you tried two or more established antidepressants and don’t see an improvement in your quality of life. If you’ve been diagnosed with Treatment Resistant Depression, you could be eligible to find relief with SPRAVATO®. This esketamine nasal spray has been demonstrated to help with depression, like suicidal thoughts and actions.

Notwithstanding, SPRAVATO is taken differently than your usual pill or liquid. It is a immensely regulated FDA-approved medication that can only be given by authorized SPRAVATO providers. So, what can you be prepared for during a SPRAVATO treatment Near Monmouth Junction?

SPRAVATO Can Only Be Given Through An FDA-Approved Provider

SPRAVATO can only be dispensed under direct medical supervision at a location certified in the SPRAVATO Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) program. The Counseling Center at Monmouth Junction is proud to be a member of the program as an approved SPRAVATO treatment provider. Prior to starting your care, we will inform you on the benefits and risks of SPRAVATO use, including dissociation, sedation, misuse, and abuse. We’ll also talk about common side effects, some of which happen directly after the dose and go away the same day.

Breaking Down SPRAVATO Treatments

Your first session at our certified SPRAVATO treatment center near Monmouth Junction will be a consultation. You will have an evaluation to find out if you have treatment-resistant depression and if this treatment is right treatment for you. You might be eligible for SPRAVATO if you attempted two or more FDA-approved depression treatments and didn’t see improvement in your depression symptoms.

Beginning SPRAVATO Treatment Near Monmouth Junction

Your SPRAVATO treatment can commence as soon as your second appointment. But before you start, there are a few things to consider.

  • Secure transportation. You’ll need transportation to and from our facility as you won’t be allowed to drive or do anything that takes undistracted alertness until the next day.
  • Bring something to do. After you take the treatment, you’ll be supervised for at least two hours. Bring a book, a charged phone, or another form of portable entertainment.
  • Guidelines for eating and drinking. Since SPRAVATO can cause an upset stomach and vomiting in some clients, don’t eat for at least two hours before and avoid drinking for 30 minutes.
  • Avoid other nasal medications for at least one hour. If you medicate with nasal corticosteroid or nasal decongestant medications, do so at least one hour prior your treatment.

Once you’ve made your arrangements, you can start treatment. We will give you instructions you on how to take the nasal spray. You will self-administer the spray while under the direct care of our clinicians. We’ll monitor you for at least two hours for side effects and let you know when it’s time for you to leave.

For the first four weeks, you’ll take SPRAVATO twice per week. Once completed, we’ll talk about the frequency and levels of your dosage and recommend further treatment that takes into account your symptoms, progress, and other factors.

What Does SPRAVATO Feel Like?

SPRAVATO typically provides a calming, relaxed state that helps diminish your symptoms of TRD. The dosage will not cause drowsiness in most patients, but you might feel sleepy or doze off during your session. The lethargy or sleepiness you see should leave shortly after the office visit ends or during the monitored recovery time.

Other side effects are possible, including nausea, vomiting, dizziness, and disorientation. However, many patients experience few or no side effects at all.
